Chris Bumstead wins a sixth Classic Physique Olympia title at the 60th anniversary of Joe Weider’s Fitness and Performance Weekend!
The 2024 Classic Physique Olympia was a part of Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, which took place from October 10-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Competitors from the Classic Physique category met on Saturday, October 12 inside the Resorts World Theater at 7:00 p.m. In the end, Chris Bumstead made history and claimed his sixth consecutive title before retiring from the sport.
“This is going to be my last time up on this stage. The past eight years up here have been the most amazing of my life,” shared Bumstead. “It’s been the most beautiful journey beyond what I could ever ask for.”
Since 2016, the Classic Physique division has thrived under the IFBB Pro League banner. In 2023, Chris Bumstead succeeded in winning a fifth Classic Physique Olympia despite a painful lat tear affecting his progress throughout preparations.
In the finals, Chris Bumstead appeared even sharper than during prejudging. His chest and shoulder striations were easily the best of anyone competing in Classic. He had his work cut out for him though, as Urs Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfeld brought the best physiques of their budding careers.
Kalecinski made dramatic improvements to his back, adding mass and detail. He also brought up his arms which now complement the symmetry he brings to his lower body. Although Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfeld put up a good fight, Chris Bumstead took home a decisive victory for the last time. Mike Sommerfeld placed second and Urs Kalecinski took third.
